The Belarusian army has received the S-400 surface-to-air missile system (NATO classification: SA-21 Growler). It will be deployed in the country in the near future.

Here's What We Know

The export value of the SA-21 Growler makes up $2.5bn, which is how much Turkey paid a few years ago for the antiaircraft missile system. This became the reason for the country's exclusion from the program to develop the fifth generation fighter aircraft F-35 Lightning II.

Belarus received the SA-21 Growler free of charge. It was delivered in the framework of military cooperation with the Russian Federation. The antiaircraft missile system is likely to be deployed near the Belarusian-Polish or Belarusian-Ukrainian border.

Belarusian anti-aircraft gunners underwent a full training course for the combat use of the air defense system. The soldiers were trained to use SA-21 Growler surface-to-air missile systems in Russia.
