Republic of Korea to boost production of K2 Black Panther tanks and early warning aircraft - authorities approve $2.66bn investment
The Republic of Korea needs more tanks and early warning aircraft amid constant threats from the DPRK. The authorities have therefore decided to make additional investments that will dramatically increase production of the K2 Black Panther combat aircraft.

The Defence Project Promotion Committee has approved the $1.46bn programme, which will run for the next five years. This was announced by the Defence Acquisition Programme Administration.
The Defense Acquisition Program Administration said in a statement that the acquisition of additional K2 Black Panther tanks will enhance the Army's ability to wage war. At the same time, the number of combat vehicles is not specified yet.
The Republic of Korea is also investing $2.2 billion in the purchase of additional early warning aircraft. They will strengthen the South Korean military's capabilities in the aerial surveillance segment. The project will last until 2031. The number of planes is also not specified.
