Here's What We Know
The Ukrainian Defence Forces received at least six towed howitzers. The export of the guns was officially confirmed by Spanish Defence Minister Margarita Robles in late autumn last year.
The OTO Melara Mod 56 is a 105mm cannon developed by the Italian company OTO Melara. It weighs 1,290 kg and is equipped with a 14 gauge barrel. The artillery unit has a crew of seven. The howitzer is capable of firing 10 rounds per minute and can hit targets at ranges of up to 10.6 km.
The OTO Melara Mod 56 is available in two other modifications: GebHaub 105 and Model 56. The first one was developed in Germany and got a German barrel. The second version was created by Norinco for the Chinese armed forces.
