The UK will increase its fleet of upgraded M270B2 MLRS multiple-launch rocket systems with a promising launch range of up to 1,000km
In mid-May we wrote that the UK plans to receive 44 upgraded M270 MLRS missile systems. Now it has been revealed that the UK Army intends to increase its B2-level fleet by more than one and a half times.
Here's What We Know
The M270B1 Multiple Launch Rocket System is the US version of the M270A1 MLRS. The British version features reinforced armour to enhance crew protection against improvised explosive devices.
The missile systems are in service with the 26th and 101st regiments of the Royal Artillery. The UK Ministry of Defence wants to increase the M270B2 MLRS fleet to 71 units. The upgrade to B2 level will extend the service life to 2050.
The M270B2 MLRS will be able to launch GMLRS-ER and Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) missiles with ranges of up to 150 km and 500 km respectively. In future, the PrSM will be able to hit targets at a range of 1,000 km.
