Raytheon donates 10kW H4 laser weapon system to the Pentagon for the US Air Force
The US Air Force will soon be able to deploy a fourth H4 laser weapon system. Raytheon Technologies has announced that the installation has already been handed over to the US Department of Defence.
Here's What We Know
The laser installation is focused on destroying aerial targets, including enemy short-range drones. Last fall, the US Air Force and Raytheon Technologies conducted a test of the laser weapon system. The test took place at the New Mexico Proving Ground for four days.
The H4 has a power of 10 kW. The laser system is mounted on a wheeled chassis. Raytheon Technologies has delivered a total of eight laser weapon systems to the Pentagon. Half of them are intended for the US Air Force.
In addition to the laser itself, the system includes an electro-optical/infrared sensor, a laptop and a controller. The H4 laser can be integrated into an air defence system.
Raytheon Technologies has built the world's first laser weapon factory. The facility is located in the state of Texas. It took nine months to build the 10-kilowatt H4 laser system.
