The Netherlands and Denmark have financed the purchase of 14 German Leopard 2 tanks for Ukraine worth over $100m
The Ukrainian Armed Forces will receive an additional batch of German Leopard 2 main battle tanks. This was reported by the Handelsbaltt newspaper citing its sources in NATO.
Here's What We Know
German concern Rheinmetall will transfer 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. The deliveries were financed by the Netherlands and Denmark. The German government was involved in the deal, which required permission to export the combat vehicles.
One should not expect a new shipment of tanks tomorrow. Rheinmetall will be able to deliver the first combat vehicles to Ukraine in January next year. The entire batch of Leopard 2s will be delivered during 2024. The cost is not specified, but it is known that we are talking about an amount with eight zeros, i.e. at least $100 million.
It is not currently specified which versions Rheinmetall will send to Ukraine. Earlier this year, the Armed Forces received 2A4 and 2A6 tanks.
