Hyundai Rotem reveals South Korea's next-generation K3 tank concept with unmanned turret and 120/130mm cannon
A South Korean manufacturer has unveiled a next-generation tank concept. The fighting vehicle is called the K3.
Here's What We Know
The Korean company's main battle tank, like its modern counterparts in other countries, has the crew in the front, while the power plant is placed in the rear. The crew will comprise up to three men.
The K3 will have an unmanned turret equipped with a 120 mm automatic smoothbore gun and anti-tank missile system. In addition, Hyundai Rotem plans to provide the option of integrating a 130-mm cannon in the future.
The main battle tank will feature low radar and infra-red visibility. Steel, composite and ceramic armour will be used for protection. The K3 will also be fitted with an active defence system to counter anti-tank missiles and grenades.
The next-generation tank will weigh 55 tonnes. The combat vehicle will be powered by a diesel propulsion system and will be able to reach speeds of up to 70 km/h. Its cruising range will be up to 500km. Hyundai Rotem will unveil its first working prototype of K3 later this decade.
