The US Air Force sent a quartet of supersonic B-1B Lancer strategic jets to Europe in late spring. The bombers recently landed in Sweden for the first time ever.

Here's What We Know

Two of Rockwell's supersonic bombers landed in Sweden at Norrbotten Air Base on June 19, 2023. The B-1B Lancer will take part in the exercise together with Swedish Air Force aircraft.

The B-1B is part of the Bomber Task Force (BTF). This is a Global Strike Command strategic mission that aims to develop the US Air Force's ability to operate from unfamiliar terrain in conjunction with allies and partners.

The B-1B Lancer flew to the base accompanied by Swedish JAS 39 Gripen fighters and a U.S. Hercules cargo aircraft. Swedish Deputy Commander-in-Chief Brigadier General Tommy Petersson called the arrival of the bombers a "historic event.
