REST, the Israeli equivalent of the US JDAM-ER system for converting conventional bombs into high-accuracy, long-range munitions

Israeli company Elbit Systems is actively introducing new military products. One of the new products is the Range Extension and Smart Tail (REST) kit.

Here's What We Know

The REST is essentially the US equivalent of the Joint Direct Attack Munition Extended Range (JDAM-ER) system. The kit allows you to turn dumb bombs into smart bombs, increasing the accuracy and range of the munition.

The REST includes an all-weather control and flight correction module. Wings are provided to increase launch range. According to the manufacturer, the new kit increases the launch range to 120km and works on a 'shoot-forget' basis.

The high-precision munition is capable of manoeuvring during flight to predetermined points. It also features an inertial system with correction by satellite signals. Elbit claims that the munition hits the target with a deviation of up to 10 metres.

The official press release states that REST is compatible with Mk 8X, HSLDB (High Speed Low Drag Bomb) and MPR bombs weighing 250-1000kg. REST ammunition can be launched from any aircraft without the need to modify the avionics or mount design.
