Raytheon Australia tests the Australian version of the NASAMS surface-to-air missile system

A local version of the NASAMS surface-to-air missile system has been tested in Australia. It is designed to meet the criteria set out in the Land 19 Phase 7B program.

Here's What We Know

Australia needs a Short-Range Ground-Based Air-Defence (SRGBAD) system. The NASAMS was tested on 20 June 2023 at a range in South Australia under the direction of Raytheon Australia.

Kongsberg won the contract to supply the NASAMS surface-to-air missile system in 2017. Two years later, the project received additional funding. The cost of the programme is AU$2.5bn ($1.7bn).

The project includes the procurement of control systems, launchers and radars. The NASAMS surface-to-air missile system will work in conjunction with army vehicles and radios.
