Aerojet Rocketdyne has conducted a firing test of the eSR-19 engine for a next-generation US medium-range ballistic target missile

Aerojet Rocketdyne has announced the successful test of its advanced eSR-19 solid propulsion engine. Firing tests of the propulsion system came in California at US Air Force base Edwards.

Here's What We Know

The eSR-19 will be used in a target missile. It is an improved version of the SR-19 propulsion system found in the current generation LGM-30G Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile.

The Missile Defense Agency (MDA) will equip an eSR-19 engine on a medium-range ballistic target missile. It will be used to test US missile defence systems.

The successful firing test will be followed by an in-flight test. They will be carried out by the MDA in conjunction with the US Air Force Research Laboratory. Aerojet Rocketdyne will be able to send them the engine at the end of the year.

The final stage of the project is the integration of the rocket engines. This procedure will take place at the MDA facility in Orlando, Florida. The manufacturer of the ballistic target rocket is Rocketdyne Coleman Aerospace.
