Thales joins multi-billion euro drone development programme Eurodrone
Airbus, Dassault, Safran and Leonardo have joined forces to build Europe's next-generation drone, the Eurodrone. Thales has recently joined them.
Here's What We Know
The Eurodrone project comprises Germany, France, Spain and Italy. It has been launched to develop a MALE (Medium Altitude Long Range) class drone. The drone will be used for reconnaissance, surveillance and reconnaissance.
The French company's joining the programme was confirmed by Airbus vice president Jean Brice Dumont at the Paris Air Show. An anonymous source said Thales will supply Modem 21 systems to improve the drone's resistance to interference.
Costing more than $7.6 billion, the drone will make its first flight in late 2026 or early 2027. The companies are now working on a preliminary design. A preliminary design review (PDR) is scheduled for later this year.
