The leadership of the US Air Force may be getting ready to pop the champagne. The Senate Committee on Armed Services (SCAS) has authorized the retirement of a large batch of A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft.

Here's What We Know

The iconic A-10 jets are living out their age. The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) would retire 42 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft. SCAS would allow the US Air Force to get rid of the aircraft.

The decision comes after the House Armed Services Committee's tactical air and land forces panel approved a plan to reduce the A-10 Thunderbolt II fleet.

The U.S. Air Force will phase out all Warthog-named aircraft. The service will retire a total of 63 (21+42) A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft between fiscal years 2023-2024.
