Kongsberg to build $46m service centre in Norway for F-35 Lightning II fifth-generation stealth fighters

Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace is investing several tens of millions of dollars to build a service centre for the F-35 Lightning II fifth-generation fighter jet.

The facility will operate as part of the Royal Norwegian Air Force. Approximately $46 million will be invested to build the centre. It is expected to begin servicing stealth aircraft in the second half of 2025.

Construction of the facility will be handled by Aviation Maintenance Services. Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace will also manage future operations. The new centre is expected to carry out maintenance work on fighters from other countries. It is currently carried out in Italy. This is part of the Norwegian commitment to the F-35 programme.

Kongsberg Aviation Maintenance Services works with Pratt & Whitney to maintain and upgrade F-35 Lightning II fighter jets and F135 propulsion systems. The Rygge plant has been testing engines for the Royal Norwegian Air Force's F-35 since 2020.
