Here's What We Know
A press release on the official RTX website states that the tests of the air-to-air missile have been completed successfully. The final point in the tests was the launch of the AIM-120D-3 AMRAAM from a fourth-generation F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter.
The company is now ramping up production of AMRAAM missiles faster than ever before. Paul Ferraro, president of Air Power, said.
The AIM-120D-3 is the most advanced variant of the AMRAAM missile. It was developed under the Form, Fit, Function Refresh (F3R) programme. RTX specialists will be able to improve the missile by updating the software. It has a maximum launch range of 180 kilometres.
RTX began upgrading the AIM-120 in 2021. In the middle of last year, the company conducted the first combat test of the improved version of the aircraft missile. In previous tests, an F/A-18 fighter jet was used.
