China simulated an air battle between F-16s and Mirage 2000s - the French fighters won a convincing victory, destroying all the American planes
The Chinese military conducted a simulation of an air battle involving US F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters with French Mirage 2000 fighters. The European aircraft won a confident victory.
Here's What We Know
Two wings of four aircraft each took part in the simulation. The F-16s acted as the aggressor. The Mirage 2000s were on the defensive. During the simulation, the French aircraft were able to destroy all four American fighters. At the same time, the F-16 team was only able to shoot down one Mirage 2000.
Unfortunately, the Chinese military does not share information about under what conditions the battle took place and at what distances. The purpose of such a simulation is not specified, but it is possible that it is related to planning possible scenarios of confrontation with Taiwanese forces.
Taiwan's army has both the Mirage 2000 and the F-16 Fighting Falcon in service. The island nation is now buying modernised US Block 70/72 level F-16s to complement the older F-16A/Bs.
