Saudi Arabia can forget about the Eurofighter Typhoon for now - Germany has banned deliveries of the fighter jets
Despite pressure from the UK, Germany has no plans to unblock deliveries of Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets to Saddam Arabia. This was announced by Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Wednesday.
Here's What We Know
Saudi Arabia has led a coalition of forces fighting against pro-Iranian Houthis in Yemen since 2015. In 2018, following the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Germany began blocking arms shipments that have German components.
Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets fall under this criterion. One-third of the components for European aircraft are manufactured in Germany.
Following Sadov's rapprochement with Iran in early 2023, the UK said there was no longer any reason for Germany to block deliveries of fighter jets. However, Olaf Scholz said Berlin's decision on the issue would remain in force until at least 2025.
