India to buy 26 Dassault Rafale fighter jets and 3 Scorpene class submarines from France

India's defence ministry has given preliminary approval for the purchase of French arms.

Here's What We Know

We are talking about 26 French Dassault Rafale fighter jets in naval version, including 4 trainer aircraft. The fighters are planned to be used along with India's first aircraft carrier INS Vikrant. It was commissioned last year.

Apart from the aircraft, India will also order 3 Scorpene class submarines from France. They will be manufactured by India's Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders and France's Naval Group. All the purchases are rumoured to be worth $9,750,000,000. There is no timeline for the orders yet.
