The U.S. has approved Finland to buy Israel's David's Sling missile defense system for €316 million
The United States has authorised Finland to buy the David's Sling missile defence system from Israel.
Here's What We Know
The information was shared by the Times of Israel, referring to the Ministry of Defence of Israel. The contract required U.S. approval, because the system was jointly developed with Israel. Finland wanted to buy such a missile defence system immediately after joining NATO. The contract is worth about 316 million euros. By the way, this is the first case of selling the system abroad. Before that, only Israel operated it.
Flashback
David's Sling - is the Israel Defence Forces' multi-layered anti-missile system. It is designed to intercept short-range ballistic missiles, subsonic cruise missiles and large calibre unguided missiles with a launch range of 70 to 300 kilometres. Presumably, David's Sling can also intercept aircraft. Tests of the system began in 2012.
