German defence company Diehl Defence is going to increase production of IRIS-T air defence systems.
Here's What We Know
The information was shared by the company's programme manager Harald Buschek. According to him, the war in Ukraine has caused a significant increase in demand for air defence systems. Therefore, Diehl Defence is going to produce 3-4 SAM systems in 2024 and at least 8 systems in 2025. Also Diehl Defence has already tripled the production of missiles for IRIS-T. In 2024, the company wants to produce 400-500 missiles.
By the way, Germany has handed over two IRIS-T systems to Ukraine and plans to send six more. The AFU mainly uses German SAMs to defend Kyiv from massive missile attacks. Since the IRIS-T was put on combat duty, the SAM has been able to destroy 110 air targets. Most of them were Kalibr missiles. The effectiveness of the complex reaches 100 per cent.
