Norway is preparing a new armament package for the Ukrainian army.

Here's What We Know

We are talking about a surface-to-air missile system NASAMS: 10 launchers and 4 control centers. They are planned to be ordered from the manufacturer Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace (KDA). The contract will be worth 3.45 billion Norwegian kroner (about $250 million). Unfortunately, there is no information yet on when deliveries of the weapons will begin.

Flashback

NASAMS is a mobile surface-to-air missile system for destroying manoeuvring targets at low and medium altitudes. The system was developed in the early 90s by the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defence with the participation of the American Raytheon. The range of AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles is 20-40 kilometres and the maximum altitude is 20 kilometres. By the way, Ukraine now has at least two NASAMS batteries in service. One battery consists of six mobile missile launchers. In addition, the system has a vehicle for charging, target detection and maintenance of the complex.
