Rheinmetall starts construction of the first "hybrid" plant in Hungary
The German company Rheinmetall has begun construction of a new "hybrid" plant in Szeged, Hungary, which will serve both civilian and defence needs.
Here's What We Know
This plant is considered to be Rheinmetall's first major hybrid facility and is estimated to cost around €63 million. It will occupy approximately 15,000 square metres of a total site area of 85,000 square metres.
The plant will not only expand Rheinmetall's capabilities in Europe, but will also focus on the Russian-Ukrainian war. It will produce a wide range of products, such as electrical components such as nanostructured capacitors or hydrogen for energy regeneration.
According to the plan, the military capacity will occupy a tenth of the plant's production area. Work on site is scheduled to begin in August 2025. In addition, Rheinmetall is actively developing cooperation with the European Union and other partners to increase production of military products.
