Windows Defender reduces performance of Intel processors, but the problem can be solved

Programmer Kevin Glynn has discovered that Windows Defender antivirus reduces the performance of Intel processors.

What we know

Kevin Glynn is the creator of the utilities RealTemp and ThrottleStop. He has developed the utility Counter Control, which solves the problem of performance degradation of Intel chips without affecting the performance of antivirus. This tool may help until Microsoft offers an official fix to the problem.

Glynn noticed that the Windows Defender application can take up seven hardware performance counters while running, resulting in reduced performance during periods of activity. The problem is solved by disabling anti-virus, but then the risk of infecting the operating system increases.

This is where the programmer's new utility comes to the rescue. After starting Counter Control, the user should click Reset Counters if Defender is specified in the Current Status column. This will reset the performance counters and return the resource consumption to a normal value.
