YouTube is starting to roll out a new update of new emotes, similar to how it is done on Twitch - they are called YouTube Emotes. They can be used in comments, or during live chats, although previously the platform allowed individual streamers to offer their own reactions and emotions. The initial set of emotes is focused on gaming themes, but there will be more over time.

If you have received the update, then when you open the list of YouTube emotions, you will see a new menu of YouTube emotions that will appear immediately below the channel's emotions. Similar to Twitch's default system-wide emotes, YouTube's emotes also have special autocomplete names, so if you quickly type in, for example, ":cat-orange-whistling:", the comment will automatically fill with an orange cat whistling.

"We're starting with emojis made for gaming, but we're working to add even more emoji themes in the future, so stay tuned for more emojis for even more communities!" YouTube's latest community post says.
