Just sing the song: YouTube is testing its Shazam analogue

Video hosting YouTube is testing a new song search feature that could compete with Shazam.

Details

The new feature involves identifying a song based on a short snippet of it. And you can record it (for example, when the track is playing on the radio or on the street) or just sing it. The system takes only 3 seconds to recognise it.

YouTube will then redirect the user to the relevant content: show the official music video or just clips that feature the song.

So far, this feature is still in the testing phase, so it is only available to a small portion of Android users. We hope that it will soon appear in the YouTube Music service.

By the way, this method of searching for songs is familiar not only from SoundHound or Shazam. In 2020, Google launched a similar function in its search engine and Google Assistant. To do this, you need to click on the microphone icon and sing or switch on the song. But the system needs much more time for identification - at least 10-15 seconds. YouTube managed to reduce this time to 3 seconds thanks to machine learning.
