According to The New York Times, the Russian army in the war against Ukraine has already used more than two hundred types of weapons prohibited by international conventions.

What is known

First of all, we are talking about cluster munitions, as well as their submunitions. At the same time, the Russian Federation does not have any restrictions on the use of such weapons. Moreover, since February 24, its use has been the main military strategy.

Unguided projectiles with a low level of accuracy pose a great danger to the civilian population. To launch them, D-30 guns and Grad multiple rocket launchers are used. In total, experts counted more than four hundred launches of unguided munitions, the use of which is prohibited or restricted by international law. For example, 9M22U projectiles for Grads are allowed to be used exclusively against military targets, while a drone is used to adjust fire so as not to harm the civilian population.

No less dangerous are OF-56 high-explosive fragmentation shells and shells for Smerch multiple launch rocket systems. Russian troops also resort to using banned POM-3 mines and camouflaging grenades on civilian targets before retreating.

In the article The New York Times metal nail ammunition and phosphorus ammunition are mentioned. The authors of the material believe that the greatest danger to the civilian population is unexploded submunitions that can remain in the ground for decades.

In conclusion, we add that the Russian army uses precision munitions and missiles to destroy civilian infrastructure. This means that the Russian troops deliberately choose targets among objects that have nothing to do with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
