What is known

M224 has a long official name Lightweight Company Mortar.60 mm, M224. Officially, neither Kyiv nor the White House reported about the supply of mortars to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Development M224 was completed in 1973, and five years later the mortar was put into service. It was used in Afghanistan, Iraq and the Gulf War.

M224 is available in two versions. The standard one weighs about 20 kg, and the light one weighs about 8 kg. The maximum rate of fire is 30 rounds per minute. The initial speed of the projectile is 51-244 m / s. The mortar can fire high-explosive fragmentation, lighting and smoke mines. The maximum range is 3.5 km.

In 2012, the US Army received mortars M224A1. They are distinguished by the ability to fire without a biped. In addition, a fuse in a mine can be triggered both on impact and at a given height.
