The Ukrainian Air Force explained why the effectiveness of Buk, S-300 and other air defense systems has increased
Yuriy Ignat, a representative of the command of the Air Force of Ukraine, explained why the effectiveness of air defense systems has increased.
What is known
Ukraine has not yet received the Norwegian air defense systems NASAMS from the United States or the German IRIS-T from Germany. Despite this, our military is defending itself much more effectively now than it did four months ago.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces have Buk, Strela and S-300 surface-to-air missile systems in their arsenal. In addition, partners have handed over many man-portable air defense systems. For example, Stinger and Martlet. Also in service are captured vehicles such as the Pantsyr-S1 surface-to-air missile system.
According to Colonel Yuriy Ignat, another factor improving the effectiveness of Ukraine's air defense has been the skill of soldiers. With each new day of the war against Russia, they gain indispensable experience in the use of weapons that are available. In addition, Ukrainian army servicemen use non-standard techniques to destroy enemy missiles, because the old traditional methods do not always work.
It should be noted that ordinary Ukrainians also help to eliminate Russian air targets, although they do not have Buk or Stinger MANPADs. For example, a woman from Kiev shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle in the first days of Russia's full-scale invasion with a can of tomatoes. At first it was reported that with cucumbers, and even a lot of memes appeared.
