Lockheed Martin will sell 375 fighter jets to the United States Department of Defense F-35.
What is known
The American defense company has signed a corresponding agreement with the Pentagon. The contract amount is $30 ,000 ,000 ,000. All 375 F-35 fighter jets will be delivered to the Department of Defense within three years.
Representatives of Lockheed Martin stressed that the agreement provides for the possibility of changing the final number of planes depending on the adjustments that may be made by the US Congress into the federal budget. Note that the next fiscal year in the U.S. begins on October 1. Also the number of manufactured fighters will be influenced by the volume of foreign orders.
The production of F-35 brings 27% of income to the defense company. The first fighter jet was produced 15 years ago and cost $221,000,000. It now spends less than $80,000,000 to produce one fifth-generation Lockheed Martin aircraft. In 2019, the company signed a three-year agreement to deliver 478 fighter jets.
Recall that F-35 has a range of 2,200 km and can reach speeds up to 1,931 km/h. The combat radius of the fighter is almost 1100 km. The aircraft is equipped with two air-to-air missiles, guided bombs and a 25mm cannon.
