Against the background of Russia's war against Ukraine, Kazakhstan decided to significantly increase the country's military budget.
What we know
Experts say that Kazakhstan has learned a lesson from the aggressive policy of the Russian Federation and is now studying the experience of Ukraine's resistance in detail. The country's authorities are planning to increase its ammunition storage and armament stockpiles.
In addition, Kazakhstan is preparing to begin production of unmanned aerial vehicles Bayraktar. In late spring, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a corresponding agreement in Ankara.
As compared to 2021, the military budget of Kazakhstan will be increased by half. Not only that, the authorities decided to allocate an additional ammount of ₸441,000,000,000 ($918,000,000) to strengthen the defence. This brings the defence budget for 2022 to more than $2,600,000,000.
