Israel confirmed the use of combat drones for the first time since the destruction of a military facility in the Gaza Strip by a Hermes 450 drone
The Israeli government has confirmed for the first time that it uses drones to strike enemy positions.
What we know
Israel began developing drone technology in the 1980s. For about 30 years, censorship forbade the local media to disclose details of strikes or even information about the use of drones.
But now the authorities have decided to admit that the Defense Forces use unmanned drone strikes to destroy enemy military targets. The media gained permission to report on the military's use of combat drones after the army destroyed a Hamas post in the Gaza Strip using the Hermes 450 strike drone.
Previously, foreign media repeatedly wrote that Israel was using combat drones. According to The Times of Israel, the country's defense forces began using drones at the dawn of the 21st century. In particular, during the wars in Lebanon and Gaza Strip in 2006 and 2008, respectively. Israel also used drones to warn the population to leave the buildings to be attacked.
