The Ukrainian Armed Forces showed French VAB armored personnel carriers at the front for the first time
At the end of June, it became known that France was transferring armored vehicles to Ukraine VAB. A month later, the Ukrainian military showed the armored vehicles on the front line for the first time.
What is known
VAB is a combat vehicle developed in the mid-1970s by Renault and Saviem. Totally 5000 armored vehicles were produced. 80% of them are in service of the French Army.
VAB is usually equipped with a 12.7 mm or 7.62 mm machine gun, mounted on the vehicle's roof. Sometimes the vehicle can be equipped with automatic cannons.
The APC can reach speeds of up to 110 km/h. It has mine protection and is designed to quickly move units on the battlefield. Inside the armored fighting vehicle accommodates up to 11 men.
