Buk-M1 SAM burned down a rare Russian Ptera class reconnaissance drone (video)
Over the weekend we wrote about the destruction of a Russian drone by the S-300 SAM. Now the Buk-M1 surface-to-air missile system has taken over.
What we know
Soldiers of the anti-aircraft missile unit of the air command "Center" shot down another Russian unmanned aerial vehicle. This time the victim of the Buk-M1 SAM was a Ptera class reconnaissance drone.
Drones of this family began to appear only in 2010. The developer is the AFM Servers company. Externally and functionally, Ptero class drones are very similar to Orlan-10 drones.
The UAV is a high-plane equipped with an internal combustion engine and features a low propeller position. PteRoBot software of the same company "AFM Servers" is used to control the drone.
Ptera class drones can be equipped with 80 MP cameras and thermal imagers. The first drone was shot down by the Ukrainian military back in May 2014 over Donetsk. Since the beginning of the large-scale war, only once such a UAV has been reported destroyed - in mid-June.
