American Airlines will buy 20 supersonic Overture jets with flight speeds up to 2,100 kilometers per hour for $26 billion
Boom Electronic received an order for the purchase of 20 Overture supersonic aircraft. The buyer was the world's largest airline, America Airlines.
What we know
Boom Supersonic already has several orders for 130 airliners including options. The cost of the new contract is $26 billion, it was announced by Blake Sholl, CEO of American Airlines.
Aircraft Overture will be designed to carry up to 80 passengers, and their main feature will be the work on environmentally friendly fuel. The first samples of airliners will appear in three years. If everything goes well, the passenger flights on Boom Supersonic aircraft will begin in 2029.
Now the manufacturer has a 1-to-3 scale prototype that will be flight tested in 2022. The commercial version of the Overture will be able to reach speeds of up to Mach 1.7 (2,100 km/h).
