Germany will transfer IRIS-T air defense systems and COBRA radar stations to Ukraine in the coming weeks
The Armed Forces of Ukraine will soon receive IRIS-Tair defense systems along with COBRA radar stations.
What we know
On August 21, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that COBRA radar systems together with IRIS-T air defense equipment would "soon arrive" in Ukraine. On August 23, Defense Minister Annalena Baerbock added that the weapons would be delivered "in the coming weeks".
Olaf Scholz also noted that Germany and Canada have agreed on a new military aid package. In addition to air defense equipment, it will include missile systems and tons of ammunition.
Recall that Ukraine signed a contract with Diehl Defense in early summer for the purchase of IRIS-T surface-to-air missile systems, which can destroy targets at a distance of up to 40 km. The sum was €178 million. The funds for SAMs will be allocated from the German budget.
