Sony is raising the price of the PlayStation 5 in all countries except the U.S. Reason: global inflation and unfavorable monetary trends

On its official PlayStation website, Sony has announced that it is raising the price of the PlayStation 5 console in all countries except the U.S.

Here’s What We Know 

According to the company, the reason was "high global inflation rates, as well as unfavorable currency trends that affect consumers and put pressure on many industries." Therefore, Sony is forced to increase the recommended price of the PlayStation 5 in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and Canada.

Europe

  • PS5 - 550 euros

  • PS5 Digital Edition - 450 euros

UK

  • PS5 - £480
  • PS5 Digital Edition - £390

Japan (from September 15, 2022)

  • PS5 - 61,000 yen
  • PS5 Digital Edition - 50,000 yen

China

  • PS5 - 4,300 yuan
  • PS5 Digital Edition ¥3,500

Australia

  • PS5 $800 AUD
  • PS5 Digital Edition: $650 AUD

Mexico

  • PS5 - 15,000 Mexican Pesos
  • PS5 Digital Edition - 12,500 Mexican Pesos

Canada

  • PS5 - $650 CAD
  • PS5 Digital Edition - 520 Canadian dollars.

Sony also noted that despite the price increase, their main priority is improving the PS5 supply situation so that as many players as possible can experience all that the PlayStation 5 has to offer.
