Spain plans to purchase Norwegian Naval Strike Missile anti-ship missiles. They will be installed on modernized frigates of the Navy.

Here's What We Know

Spain appeared on the list of operators of anti-ship missiles on the official website of the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defense and Aerospace. The manufacturer confirmed receipt of the corresponding letter from the Spanish government. However, the Spanish Defense Ministry has not yet made an official statement.

NSM Missile missiles will be equipped with future frigates project F-110, as well as the existing warships F-100. Now they use American anti-ship missiles Harpoon by McDonnel Douglas. There is also a suggestion that Spain will begin buying Norwegian missiles for Sikorsky SH-60 Seahawk helicopters and the fifth generation fighter aircrafts F-35 Lighting II.

The Naval Strike Missile is a subsonic munition that can engage ground and surface enemy targets. The missile is 4 m long, has a target recognition system and weighs 410 kg. The maximum launch range is over 185 km.
