North Korean leader Kim Jong-un declared the irreversibility of North Korea's nuclear status. The Nuclear Weapons Law was passed at the Supreme People's Assembly.

Here's What We Know

The new doctrine states that the command and control system of the national nuclear forces can launch a nuclear strike if an enemy threatens to attack. In addition, North Korea can use nuclear weapons in the event of a situation that would pose a threat to the residents of the country. Sole control of nuclear forces passes to Kim Jong-un.

The North Korean leader has already criticized South Korea for Seoul's plans to expand its military capabilities and hold joint military exercises with the United States. Kim said such actions by the southern neighbor are creating tension in the region.
