India unveils Samar-2 air defense system with P-27T missile and Tatra 815 chassis
The Samar-2 air defense system was presented at DefExpo 2022, an international defense industry exhibition taking place in India.
Here's What We Know
The Samar-2 is part of India's Make in India initiative, which was launched to develop production capacity and technology within the country. Incidentally, under the same program , India will begin production of titanium castings for M777 howitzers.
The air defense system involves the use of P-27ET1 thermally guided aircraft missiles. The launcher is mounted on a Tatra 815 chassis with 8x8 wheel configuration and contains two missiles, one on each launcher.
As for the P-27ER1 missile, it has a maximum range of 84 km when launched from a plane. However, the Samar-2 will not use additional boosters, so when launched from the ground the range will be about 20 km.
