The result of dissatisfaction with Apple gadgets: electric car manufacturer Nio is already testing its first smartphone
This summer it became known that the Chinese electric car manufacturer Nio was entering the smartphone market and was planning to start producing gadgets. A few months have passed, and not only has the company not given up on the idea, but it is already actively moving forward with it.
Details
According to the company's CEO William Li, two specialized teams are working on the project, one based in Shanghai and the other in Shenzhen. Moreover, a select group of Nio customers have already gotten early access to the phone, tested it, and initial results and impressions are encouraging.
The first Nio smartphone is due to debut in 2023, after which the company intends to release one new model per year.
The reason for the release of smartphones was Nio's dissatisfaction with other manufacturers, especially Apple, which does not allow customers access to certain technologies. In particular, the iPhone is limited in its support of millimeter range (mmWave), but this technology is used in Nio cars. Android smartphone owners aren't at such a disadvantage, but Nio has decided that the only way to take full advantage of today's technology is to develop its own cell phone.
According to rumors, the firstborn will get a top-of-the-line Qualcomm processor, a proprietary Nio OS that will be Android-based, a voice assistant, and 100-watt fast charging.
