Ford is forced to recall nearly two dozen F-150 Lightning electric pick-up trucks. The reason is a defect in the battery, which can lead to fires.

Here's What We Know

Last month, the company learned that some pickups released in January 2023 could be fitted with defective batteries. The cause has been rectified and Ford will resume production of the vehicles at its Michigan plant as early as 13 March.

Defective traction batteries can spontaneously combust. The company has recorded one case of fire. Fortunately, no one was injured. The problematic batteries may be installed in 18 F-150 Lightning electric pickup trucks that have already been handed over to customers.

Customers will be called to dealerships, where Ford specialists will carry out a free vehicle diagnosis. In case the defect is detected, all measures will be taken to eliminate it.
