To replace AS-90s to be handed over to Ukraine: UK to buy state-of-the-art Archer armoured turrets from BAE Systems

The UK is set to buy advanced 155mm Archer self-propelled artillery units from BAE Systems.

The information was shared by the publication Shephard. We are talking about 6-8 units. The contract for the purchase of the UK and Sweden will be signed in the near future. The Archer SAUs will replace the AS-90s in the British army, which will be sent to Ukraine. Incidentally, Ukraine will also receive Archer. Sweden has promised to transfer 12 units to the Armed Forces.

Flashback

Archer is a modern Swedish 155mm self-propelled artillery unit based on Volvo A30D 6×6 chassis. It is designed to destroy manpower, artillery batteries, bunkers, as well as to provide passageways in minefields and field barriers. The SAU is operated by 3-4 men. It is capable of engaging targets at ranges up to 60 km (with Excalibur rounds). In 3.5 minutes Archer can fire over 21 rounds.
