Turkey's ANKA 3 stealth drone hits the runway ready for its maiden flight
About a month ago, Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) unveiled the ANKA 3 drone. The drone has a "flying wing" aerodynamic design. Very soon it will take to the skies for the first time.
Here's What We Know
The aerodynamic scheme provides low radar visibility. Bülent Körkem, director of drone development at TAI, says the ANKA 3 has a number of advantages, including high payload, long range and high speed.
The ANKA 3 has a maximum take-off weight of 6,500 kg and a practical payload capacity of 1,200 kg. The new unmanned aerial vehicle will be able to climb to an altitude of up to 13,500 meters and perform combat missions at an altitude of around 12,000 meters.
TAI has already rolled the drone out onto the airstrip for ground testing. The company is currently conducting taxiing tests. ANKA 3 will be able to make its debut flight as early as the first half of May. But the exact date is still unknown.
Unfortunately there is not much information about the technical parameters so far. In addition to the above data, we now know that the maximum range of the ANKA-3 is 700km and speed is 864km/h (M=0.7).
