China's $10,000 Mugin-5 Pro drones could attack Russia's biggest oil depot in Crimea
On the morning of 29 April, a Russian oil depot in the city of Sevastopol was attacked by drones. The strike started a fire that covered an area of 1,000 square metres.
Here's What We Know
The total volume of the tanks is approximately 135,000 cubic metres. Thus, the attacked facility is the largest Russian oil depot on the temporarily occupied Crimean peninsula. Some of the tanks were destroyed.
According to Russian media, the oil depot was hit by Chinese Mugin-5 Pro kamikaze drones. The wreckage of one drone was found in Crimea. Two more drones have reached their target.
The Mugin-5 Pro is a civilian drone. It can be purchased on AliExpress for $10,000. The drone weighs 85kg and can carry up to 25kg of payload. The flight time is 7 hours. The drone is also capable of reaching speeds of 150 km/h.
The body of the drone is made of 100 percent carbon fiber. This feature of the drone creates difficulties for the detection of air defenses.
Note that the Mugin-5 Pro "likes" Russian oil depots. In the summer of 2022, such a drone could attack an oil refinery in Russia.
