Jet power on demand: review of the Samsung Bespoke Jet wireless vacuum cleaner with automatic cleaning station and wet cleaning
The Samsung Bespoke Jet is a real Everest among cordless vacuum cleaners! In addition to its increased power (which, as you know, is never too much), it has several other significant advantages to make it a household favourite. These are the included extra battery that doubles the running time and the branded universal cleaning station that allows you to empty the bin quickly and hygienically without contact with debris and dust. And the very useful water spray brush, which allows for wet cleaning. Together with the nozzle rack and its station, it looks like a technological decoration of the interior and solves the main dilemma of vacuum cleaners: on the one hand, you want it to be always at hand, and on the other hand, you want to hide it from prying eyes (because no one flaunts a mop or broom). However, the design of the Samsung Bespoke Jet vacuum cleaner (as well as any Samsung Bespoke appliances) was specially developed to make it look like an integral part of the interior. Even one that your designer calls sophisticated.
3 Reasons to Buy a Samsung Bespoke Jet
- You simply need the best cordless vacuum cleaner with the most features
- You're annoyed by the need to clean the bin regularly and come into contact with debris, so you're looking for a way to get rid of it
- You're looking for a cleaning solution that's always ready to go and doesn't spoil your elegant interior
1 Reason Not to Buy a Samsung Bespoke Jet
- Its capabilities and equipment far exceed your home cleaning needs
What is Special about the Gadget?
A wireless vacuum cleaner is a relatively new class of cleaning device that has been gaining popularity over the past few years. It is bought even if you already have a traditional vacuum cleaner and a robot vacuum cleaner in your home. The reason is that it has a significant advantage: it is always ready to go and does not require time to take it out of the pantry (or where the vacuum cleaner is usually stored) and assemble it.
Thanks to the battery, it has a higher level of mobility (for example, you can leave the house and vacuum the interior of your car, so you no longer need a separate car vacuum). But the usage scenarios for the Samsung Bespoke Jet have been expanded even further. First, it has an additional battery that allows you to completely replace the main vacuum cleaner and clean your entire house or apartment. Secondly, it has a high suction power (up to 210 W in maximum mode - this is the first Samsung vacuum cleaner with such power). Thirdly, this vacuum cleaner has a cleaning station. And the word Bespoke in the model's name hints at a connection with Samsung's series of home appliances, which is designed with interior design in mind and literally translates as "made to order."
What's in the Box
It's no exaggeration to say that the Samsung Bespoke Jet's equipment set is impressive (at least I didn't expect to see a wet cleaning brush and an extra battery). Here's the full list:
Automatic Cleaning Station
The main visual difference between the Samsung Bespoke Jet is the automatic cleaning station. Previously, we have only seen such a device in robot vacuum cleaners (for example, Samsung Jet Bot+). This seems to be the first time that gg has seen such a solution in a wireless vacuum cleaner. It is also used for charging the vacuum cleaner, and in general, it is located here after hours.
Nozzle Rack
A separate nozzle storage rack is another feature of this vacuum cleaner that sets it apart from others. Usually, in such models, its role is partially fulfilled by separate storage elements that are added to the charging stand for storing the vacuum cleaner. A separate "accessory rack" can hold almost all brushes. The accessory rack can also be used as an additional charging station for a second battery. It has its own power supply - it is connected separately, while the power cable of the automatic cleaning station is not detachable.
Jet Dual Main Motorised Turbo Brush
The Jet Dual brush is used for cleaning floors with different types of surface - it consists of two rollers. The first one is rubber with its own hard brushes in a spiral arrangement. The second roller is fitted with microfibre and metal filaments to enhance cleaning performance. The brush can be easily disassembled and can be cleaned of threads and wool or hair residue that usually gets wrapped up in the rollers.
Pet Hair Brush
This brush will be appreciated by anyone who has a pet with hair. It cleans surprisingly well and efficiently, thanks to both the design of the brush and the suction power of the vacuum cleaner. I tested it on several types of upholstered furniture and was satisfied not only with the result, but also with the minimal effort and time spent, even in places where our cat liked to make a bed.
Combination Crush
It's not very clear why this brush got its name, but it is convenient for cleaning hard surfaces, except for the floor. It also allows you to vacuum shelves, curtains or even office equipment. This brush can extend a few centimetres out of its body, which should improve suction properties.
Motorised Wet Cleaning Brush with Water Spray
This is another pro for Samsung Bespoke Jet users, allowing them to speed up wet cleaning in their homes. And a real work of engineering art. The brush consists of two movable surfaces on which you can put (using the usual Velcro - easy to remove and easy to put back) either reusable microfibre cloths or disposable wet ones. There is also a 150 ml water container and a spray bottle that allows you to spray water around the brush.
Crevice Nozzle
A standard indispensable nozzle for hard-to-reach places, without which, for example, it is impossible to clean the car interior with high quality (parents of small children will understand me). It has a retractable element (like any similar nozzle on any modern vacuum cleaner).
Telescopic Extension Tube
Another must-have element of any vacuum cleaner is the telescopic extension tube. It extends by 14 centimetres and increases the length of the tube from 52.5 to 66.5 centimetres.
Flexible Adapter
Finally, the last accessory, which is also included in the standard equipment of modern vacuum cleaners, allows you to increase the options for using the vacuum cleaner and reach hard-to-reach places for cleaning. For example, the surfaces of tall furniture or vacuuming curtains by bending the brush to the desired angle (the last shot shows a bundle of three accessories - an extension cord, a flexible adapter and a combination brush).
Appearance
If you've seen a wireless vacuum cleaner at least once in your life, you won't be surprised by the overall appearance of the Samsung Bespoke Jet, which is based on a well-known design: a handle with a motor, a transparent removable container (it can be washed), and an air suction tube with attachments and control contacts underneath. There is a removable battery under the handle and a display with control buttons above it.
The control is made up of a switch and buttons to increase (the same as for the water sprayer) or decrease power. The inscription Digital Inverter Technology reminds us that there is a modern digital motor with inverter technology inside (by the way, its operation is guaranteed for 10 years - the manufacturer is so confident in its trouble-free operation).
The waste bin, if equipped with an automatic cleaning station, does not come into contact with dust, but it needs to be cleaned from time to time. The filter also needs to be cleaned (in the photo it is blue and can also be washed), which is the fourth level of filtration (more on it below).
Samsung Bespoke Jet Interface and Control
The display functions turned out to be more extensive than I expected. First, it indicates the battery level while charging. Secondly, it shows the operating mode (there are four) and the predicted battery life. It is also used for service notifications (an error in operation, for example, air obstruction and the need to remove debris that obstructs the air) or to remind you that it is time to clean the filters. The display can also be used for wet cleaning when a suitable brush is connected to the vacuum cleaner.
I never imagined that vacuum cleaners would have displays in my life, but I have to admit that it doesn't take much to master - even a child can easily understand what's what thanks to the display.
How the Cleaning System Works
Samsung says that this vacuum cleaner has a 5-superior filtration system that stops 99.999% of dust with a particle size of 0.5 to 4.2 micrometres. I'm not sure I have the equipment to test this, but Samsung indicates that the German company SLG Prüf- und Zertifizierungs GmbH has done the relevant testing. Besides, I don't plan to disassemble the engine, so it's better to look at the infographic from the manufacturer's website. As you can see, everything is logical: first, large particles of debris are stopped, then medium, then small. At the final stages, it's all about micro-dust, which reduces the amount of allergens (for which the vacuum cleaner has received the approval from Allergy UK - the national charity of the British Allergy Foundation).
An important filtration stage is the Jet Cyclone system, which creates vortices from the air using 9 cyclones and directs them into holes arranged in 27 rows. According to the manufacturer, this helps to clean more efficiently, as this particular design increases the suction power and ensures better cleaning.
Motor Power
The vacuum cleaner's motor is named HexaJet Motor and has a power output of 580 W, which allows it to reach up to 135,000 revolutions per minute. The suction power reaches 210 W, which was tested by the same German company.
How Wet Cleaning Works
Of course, the wet cleaning function is the first thing that interested me in this device. I've never experienced wet cleaning with a wireless vacuum before. Two round plates about the size of a CD rotate together with the replaceable wipes. The operating time on a full battery charge is about an hour and a half. If you just need to do a wet cleaning (e.g. wipe off dust), you can use disposable wet wipes. You don't even need to fill the container with water. But if you need to clean the dirty floor directly, you will need both water and reusable fibre cloths.
Actually, there is nothing fundamentally different about wet cleaning. The vacuum cleaner automatically recognises the appropriate nozzle and switches to wet cleaning mode, as indicated on the display. To spray water, press the + key. The vacuum cleaner reminds you to hold it down for 2 seconds and shows an animation on the display. In fact, you can hold the button longer. But my experience tells me that this only gets in the way, because there is more water than needed for cleaning, and then it takes longer to collect it again and again by passing the brush. Therefore, it is really better to do everything as recommended by the smart device. Otherwise, you will need to spend more time cleaning, and the water in the container will run out even faster - it lasted me about 15-20 minutes of intensive cleaning.
Another question that I was interested in was how hygienic the use of reusable wipes is and how to clean them after cleaning. And here, too, the result was at least as good as expected - the cloth is easy to clean (like any other fibre cloth), and I suspect (I didn't take a chance with the test copy, because after me, other colleagues will test the vacuum cleaner with all its accessories) that they will safely tolerate washing in the washing machine, which is generally a solution to the problem. Additional wipes can be purchased at the official Samsung store network.
As for the quality of cleaning, I was pleasantly surprised. The quality is no different from regular cleaning with a traditional rag and mop. But you need to make much less effort. That is, you can clean even old, dried dirt relatively easily.
Automatic Cleaning Station
Regular readers of gg are already familiar with such a device as an automatic cleaning station for a vacuum cleaner. It works as simple as possible: place the vacuum cleaner on the station and press the button next to the Start/Stop sign. The LED will turn blue and the motor, which is powerful and loud compared to a vacuum cleaner, will start. It will stop automatically. Debris and dust are collected in a suitable disposable bag (yes, this is a consumable, there are 3 of them in the set) with a capacity of 2 litres. To replace the bag (of course, how often you need to do this depends on the frequency of cleaning, in my opinion, it will last for 1-2 months), you need to remove the blue decorative panel held by magnetic locks (they can be seen on the 3rd photo of the gallery) and pull the lever down a little to fold the grey panel. After replacing the bag, lift the panel and fasten it until it clicks, and then put the decorative panel back in place.
The bottom of the station is quite heavy (the whole station weighs more than 6 kilograms). The underside (and this is a feature of premium equipment, by the way - it makes no sense for developers to do things as cheaply as possible, so everything is done "properly") has cable management channels and rubber inserts to prevent slipping even on wet tiled floors.
For reliability, the station has two filters at once - one is placed under the garbage bag, the other must be removed from the bottom of the station (in the photo, we turned it upside down).
Battery Life
Samsung declares the operating time from a full battery charge as "up to an hour". Since there are two batteries in the kit (and this is really good, because you will need both of them for a big cleaning), the advantages of the Bespoke Jet can (at least formally) include two hours of work. But, as always with battery life, things are a little more complicated.
Firstly, this time corresponds to the lightest conditions of use - the use of a non-motorised nozzle at the minimum power level. That is, with motorised attachments and with other power levels (there are 4 of them).
Secondly, batteries are known to degrade over time - the manufacturer says that after 5 years of using the vacuum cleaner (based on its operation 100 times a year), the battery capacity level is 70%. And that's not all - these calculations are valid for a full battery discharge-charging cycle from 0% to 100% and back. Obviously, in most cases of real-life use, everything will be completely different.
Thirdly, although the battery capacity is 2500 mAh, it is limited to 2200 mAh, which should increase its service life. In short, it is difficult to determine what the actual operating time will be for a particular user. But, in my opinion, the calculations for the maximum operating time in favourable conditions (one hour) are fair. And in extremely harsh conditions - maximum power level and use of a motorised brush - the battery charge will last only 10 minutes.
That is, the answer to the question of the operating time from a single charge is from 10 minutes to an hour, depending on the conditions of use of the vacuum cleaner.
In the photo, you can see the predicted operating time in four modes: minimum, medium, maximum and Jet mode. These are, respectively, an hour, half an hour, 15 minutes, and 10 minutes.
While charging, the display shows the battery level. The battery itself has a separate LED indicator that changes colour from red (0-8%) to green (100%) through orange (9-29%) and yellow (30-99%). The full battery charging time is about 3.5 hours. By the way, as I said, you can charge both batteries at the same time, because the accessory stand also has charging functions.
General impressions from Samsung Bespoke Jet
While the expediency of an automatic cleaning station is a controversial issue (in fact, the world has come to containers that do not require any disposable garbage bags for a reason, only to return to them as consumables for stations), it is impossible not to admit that together with the wet cleaning brush, Samsung (again) managed to raise the value of this device (and the entire category at once, because everyone will now look up to the Bespoke Jet as a standard) to a new level. And all this is thanks to the top-of-the-line equipment, which plays a role - in addition to the automatic cleaning station, there is a wet cleaning brush and two batteries with the ability to charge both at the same time (let's not forget about the powered accessory rack).
Actually, the Spinning Sweeper has been around for 3 years (I first saw it at Samsung CIS Forum 2020) and was available as an option for the Samsung PowerStick Jet vacuum cleaner (we have a video review of it). But now we're dealing with its successor, called the Spray Spinning Sweeper, which has the word Spray in the name and has greatly influenced the use cases and user experience. And if you remember that some people have a natural aversion to dirt and dust and do not want to come into contact with it, then an automatic cleaning station also seems appropriate here.
At first, I was a little upset by the Jet mode's operating time - 10 minutes seems really short. But in fact, maximum power is rarely needed. For example, I used it only once during the month of testing, when I cleaned the car interior. When you're constantly carrying a child in a child seat (who enjoys all kinds of goodies while travelling), you can't do without the maximum power and crevice brush. And I really needed both batteries to finish the cleaning - it took a little over 20 minutes in total.
So perhaps the only reason not to buy a Samsung Bespoke Jet vacuum cleaner is the fact that its capabilities exceed the user's cleaning needs. It's not often that we deal with gadgets that have real and useful benefits that not everyone really needs. But those who find the capabilities of the Samsung Bespoke Jet interesting will not be disappointed once this device appears in their home and (possibly, but not definitely) decorates the interior.
