Razer Project Linda docking station turns a smartphone into a laptop
In 2017, Razer presented a concept laptop with three Project Valerie displays at the Consumer Electronics Show, and this year at the company's booth, another curious prototype with the working title Project Linda was discovered. This is a docking station in the form of a laptop for the gaming smartphone Razer Phone.
How it works?
Outwardly, the novelty strongly resembles the ultrabook Razer Blade Stealth, and only on closer inspection it becomes clear that the Project Valerie is a completely different device. "Brain center" of the system is Razer Phone, which connects via USB Type-C port and is located under the keyboard. 5.7-inch gadget display is used as a touchpad, although journalists noted too high sensitivity. Yet this is a test sample. Engineers also thought about how the smartphone's fingerprint scanner can be used to unlock the "notebook". To access the sensor in the metal case, a special cutout is made.
The dock itself is equipped with a 13.3-inch display, a 200 GB storage, a webcam with HD resolution and a battery with a capacity of 53.6 Wh / h. According to the company's representatives, in the final version (when and if it appears) a panel with a refresh rate of 120 Hz will be installed, as in the Razer Phone. The whole assembly weighs 1.25 kg.
The keyboard layout (with the proprietary color Chroma-backlight) is optimized to work with the Android-device. In addition to duplicating the screen, the second monitor mode is supported for displaying individual applications and games. The front speakers of the smartphone are responsible for the sound reproduction. In our memory this is not the first docking laptop, but there is definitely something in the Project Valerie.
So, what is next?
While Razer showed only prototypes, it is not known whether such devices will be released in the future. With the concepts always the case. In the past, the design of the modular desktop Razer did not go any further than the idea, and the Razer Edge game tablet, although it entered the market, but we did not wait for the second generation.
