The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) granted Huawei a patent for a smart clock with gaming functions and an unusual way of control - using a strap.

How it should work

The described gadget is equipped with a strap, the external surface of which supports touch input and is sensitive to the force of pressing. With the help of gestures, you can scroll through lists, highlight text, change the size of the elements on the screen, control the zoom of the camera and so on. In this case, the fingers will not close the already small clock display. The images also show the option of a virtual keyboard, but the convenience of typing on it is a big question.

In games, the strap is used as a gamepad. As in the vertical position (option for racing), and in the horizontal (platformers, rpg and that's it). It is unlikely that the function will be very much in demand, since almost always there is a smartphone with a large screen at hand. However, the clock can be synchronized with the game on the mobile device. Such a controller of movements can be useful in simulators of running with obstacles, skiing or jumping on a trampoline.

A sea of ideas

Huawei has long been in the business of managing wearable devices. In patents we have already seen the option with gestures above and near the display , as well as watches with a touchless bezel . Alas, none of these technologies has yet received any real application.

Earlier this year, Huawei's head of consumer business, Richard Yu, confirmed the work on a new generation of smart watches, but the company is in no hurry with the official announcement.
