Nintendo won't ditch Switch: the company plans to keep the old console around for a long time to come
The Nintendo Switch 2 will start selling as early as June.
There is no doubt that the console will be hugely popular. The media mentioned that the company plans to sell 8 million units in the first year and this figure looks quite realistic. However, many gamers fear that on the wave of such success, Nintendo will quickly roll back support for the first Switch, which was released in 2017 and is seriously outdated. But the Japanese company is hurrying to reassure its fans.
Here's What We Know
Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser gave an interview to The Washington Post in which he assured that the company will continue to support the Nintendo Switch for as long as the general public needs it.
He noted that this console has more than 150 million active users who regularly buy games, so the company will monitor the activity, and only when it drops to a critical level, Nintendo will think about ending support for Switch.
In addition, many new products are announced for release not only on Switch 2, but also on last generation devices - just today we reported that Hollow Knight: Silksong will be released on both consoles.
How long the support will last - will show the activity of the Switch audience. Not all owners of older systems will be ready to jump straight to Switch 2, but we want them to stick with us, so we'll keep releasing new content for them.
