The well-known indie publisher Devolver Digital has also followed the trend of layoffs, this time reducing the staff at its subsidiary studio Nerial, known for developing the popular Reigns and Card Shark series, by an impressive 40 percent.

Here's What We Know

These layoffs are the next step in a large-scale restructuring launched by Devolver Digital in 2024. Previously, the company has already halved the teams at its Polish studio Artificer and Good Shepherd/Big Fan divisions, reducing their staff by 50 per cent+ during 2024.

Despite a recent investor presentation where Devolver Digital reported strong financial results and a return to profitability and growth, the company announced a refocusing and optimisation of its three smaller subsidiary studios, giving them a clearer focus and reducing the size of their respective teams by around 50 per cent.

After evaluating the optimal size of its global presence in different regions, Devolver Digital has reduced its total number of employees from 303 to approximately 270 today.

Nerial has undergone a team restructuring to address issues related to recent releases and to better shape the team for future releases - this restructuring has resulted in a 40 per cent reduction in staffing, the publisher said.
