Google will no longer release new models of Nest thermostats for the European market. The company explained its decision by the fact that heating systems in Europe are very different from each other.

Here's What We Know

They have different technical features and require specific hardware and software solutions, which makes it difficult to create a universal device for most residential buildings.

In particular, the 4th generation of Nest Learning Thermostat, introduced last year, as well as all future models, will not be available in Europe. At the same time, Google will continue to sell the 3rd generation Nest Learning Thermostat (2015) and Nest Thermostat E (2018) in the European market until stocks run out.

These models will continue to receive security updates and will be supported in the Google Home and Nest apps. Also, later this year, users will be able to create and edit thermostat schedules directly in these apps.

Despite the thermostat halt, Google is not leaving the European smart home market - the company will continue to release other smart home devices. Recently, for example, the Google TV streamer made its debut in Europe. Google promises even more useful new devices for European users in the coming months and years.

Recently, it became known that Google is laying off hundreds of employees in the Android and Pixel divisions. In 2023, Google cut 6% of its global workforce, which was about 200,000 people.
